This book is the second in a series of three, the first of which explored the nature and function of doctrine. Building upon this, the present volume concentrates specifically on the place of unknowing (agnosis) in faith, and argues that there is a real and vital place for this concept within the realm of theology and faith. The third volume will then address the issue of ecclesiology in the light of the theological method outlined in the first two books.A Space for Unknowing traces the history of Christian agnosis and establishes it as a strand of theology which is firmly rooted both within the bible and in the mystical tradition. From here the book advocates and describes an open-ended method of doing theology and looks at links with other disciplines, especially the arts. The book is important in the face of some increasingly 'hard line' theological opinions, and offers a very different but still orthodox approach to theology.About the Author:Stephen Ross White is currently the Church of Ireland Dean of Killaloe in Co Clare
