\ Children's Literature\ - Christine Cassello\ Carla was going to camp for the first time and was nervous about having to make new friends. This book begins with a true story and then tells children how to make friends. It explains where children can meet friends, what they should do when they see someone they think they would like to know, like smile and see if they smile back. It tells how to start and keep a conversation going by asking questions. It also deals with repairing a friendship and ways to recover from the loss of one. I was most impressed with the page about being a friend to one's self. This is something that will help children with low self-esteem learn to feel better about their own selves. The book contains photographs of real children, who are of diverse ethnicities and sexes. It also includes a disabled child. The back of the book contains a glossary as well as a list of books and web sites for further information on the subject. The author, who also calls himself, Slim Goodbody, has written sixty-four books and been educating children in an entertaining way for more than thirty years. The book is part of the "Slim Goodbody's Life Skills 101" series. Slim Goodbody is an illustrated character the author uses to teach good health practices. Reviewer: Christine Cassello\ \
