Pro basketball player Derek Fisher reflects on his 4 NBA championships, challenges he has overcome, and the values and priorities that got him there. Library Journal As guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, Fisher has been an integral part of four NBA championships. Readers who are fans of the Lakers and the NBA or those who like reading sports autobiographies will enjoy his descriptions of the ups and downs of professional basketball and his generally pleasant childhood/basketball career in Little Rock, AR. In opposition to the image projected by many professional athletes these days, Fisher is a good guy. He peppers the book with anecdotes that reflect the values he was raised on—putting family first, having faith in God, and trying to think positively. For example, he details his family's battle for a cure when his infant daughter was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a dangerous form of cancer of the eye that usually causes blindness. Fisher describes the process he went through to facilitate his release from the Utah Jazz in order to be closer to doctors who could provide the best care for her. VERDICT An absorbing and uplifting read from cover to cover. Highly recommended.—Todd Spires, Bradley Univ. Lib., Peoria, IL
