This volume in the Long-Term Ecological Research Network Series would present the work that has been done and the understanding and database that have been developed by work on climate change done at all the LTER sites. Global climate change is a central issue facing the world, which is being worked on by a very large number of scientists across a wide range of fields. The LTER sites hold some of the best available data measuring long term impacts and changes in the environment, and the...

Sixty American researchers report findings from the 24 sites of the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) program located in the U.S. and the Antarctic. Following an introductory chapter on climate variability and ecosystem response, 17 chapters are grouped into sections dealing with separate timescales: the short timescale ranging from an individual storm to a year or less, the quasi- quintennial scale for events recurring about every five years, the timescale of several decades, and the century to millennial timescale. The final section includes chapters from individual LTER sites covering the topic at several timescales. Annotation ©2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
