At Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans, Vermont, he coached four teams to state titles. As an assistant coach at the University of Maine in 1993, he helped guide the Black Bears to their first NCAA championship. And, in the National Hockey League, Red was an assistant coach with New Jersey in 1995 when the Devils won their first of two Stanley Cups. He has since capably handled other roles with the New Jersey Devils, including head coach with their top affiliate, the Albany River Rats, and pro scout for the the parent organization. Red also has been chosen by USA Hockey to coach the country's developing players on the international scene. He has served as assistant coach on three U.S. national junior teams and as head coach of both the under 17 and under 18 teams. In addition to coaching players and teams, Red has also been a leader in coaching other coaches. As the former coaching program director for the New England District and a leading clinician in USA Hockey's coaching development program, he has mentored many peers throughout his career. Gendron earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from New England College in 1979. While there he lettered in hockey and baseball and served as the hockey team captain for three seasons. He also holds a master's degree in education administration from the University of Maine. Gendron lives in Clifton Park, New York. K. Vern Stenlund is a leading hockey instructor who played professionally and has coached at all levels. He is also a consultant to the Huron Hockey School and has assisted in establishing satellite clinics in the United States and Canada.
