\ Children's LiteratureFifty-three years ago, Nina Ennismore developed the Cornish Rex breed (a.k.a. the Poodle Cat) in Cornwall, England, when she mated an unusual curly-haired kitten with its mother. The personality traits, physical attributes, and grooming of the Cornish Rexes are briefly reviewed in this twenty-four-page book. Problematic is the fact that almost half the book's text is duplicated in other books in the "Checkerboard Animal Library's Cats Set III" series. Troubling, too, is the seemingly arbitrary choice of words to be defined in the glossary. Interestingly, Murray contrasts the two-layered coat of the Cornish Rex with the three-layered coats of most other cats. The layers are identified as "long, course guard hairs," "finer awn hairs," and "the downy undercoat." "Undercoat" is bolded in the text and defined in the glossary. The more unusual "awn" is not, and its meaning cannot be discerned from its use in context. To access additional information through the Internet, the "Web Sites" section refers readers to the ABDO homepage, where, via "Book Links," which is updated periodically by the publisher, they can connect to other sites. 2003, ABDO Publishing Company, Braaf\ \
