Jan Zlendich - Library Journal Japanese-inspired amigurumi(literal translation: "knitted stuffed toy") is one of the latest crafting crazes, and Haden's first book puts a unique spin on amigurumi by focusing on the creepy side of crocheted creatures. The Internet is full of amigurumi patterns for crocheted animals, but this is the first time this reviewer has seen a crocheted Cthulhu. (Rendered in lime-green yarn, he's far more cute than creepy.) There are also crocheted ninjas, a Grim Reaper, Day of the Dead figures, and vampires, all lovingly rendered. Although some beginner information is provided, a basic knowledge of crochet stitches and techniques is assumed, so be prepared to recommend basic crochet books to patrons drawn in by the whimsical designs. Highly recommended.
