This compilation of 32 readings presents an overview of the critical pedagogy of middle school education. The editors (both: educational policy studies and research, DePaul U.) juxtapose traditional papers as illustrations of the historical construction of adolescence and the resultant creation of middle level education alongside critical perspectives that examine the sociocultural, economic, and political origins of these processes.
