Critical considerations are marked with color-coded icons. Reference values are listed for each test, making recognition of abnormal findings easy to spot. Each section presents the synonym/acronym, type specimen needed, rationale, indications, results, critical values, as well as nursing implications. Any test that might be related is acknowledged. The inclusion of pre- and post-test considerations and explanations that the patient and family need is unique. Assessment:There are many diagnostic and laboratory books but few are as comprehensive as this one. It presents the material in such a way that even the novice can follow the rationale and importance of the tests. It is not clear from the preface what changes have occurred between the first and second editions.
