(or at least some of them) Presented in Dorling Kindersley's signature style with white background and large, clear photographs (in this case, very large, indeed), the planes are accompanied by notes and short, informative paragraphs. The earliest plane shown is the black and yellow Gee Bee Super Sportster, a nifty little racer from the thirties, only 23 of which were built by the Granville brothers in Springfield, Massachusetts. The impressive Concorde is here, although without dates and without any mention of its recent troubles. While the editors have necessarily been selective in their choices, there is plenty to keep an avid airplane fan intrigued, from the British Red Arrow stunt planes to the Chinook helicopter and the F-16.
