The Library of New Testament Studies (LNTS) is a premier book series that offers cutting-edge work for a readership of scholars, teachers in the field of New Testament studies, postgraduate students and advanced undergraduates. All the many and diverse aspects of New Testament study are represented and promoted, including innovative work from historical perspectives, studies using social-scientific and literary theory, and developing theological, cultural and contextual approaches. This book represents the first in a two volume work published simultaneously, entitled Early Christian Literature and Intertextuality. Intertextuality remains at the forefront of biblical scholarship. Armed with new questions, the contributions to these volumes seek to better understand the function of older scripture in later scripture.Volume 1 is comprised of thematic studies, encompassing early understandings of canon and Scripture, the use of Scripture in later writings and the interpretation and application of various themes and narratives, allegories and metaphors. Themes such as Law, anthropology, Messianism and conversion all receive careful attention. Volume 2 presents exegetical studies, which focus upon specific pericopes. The principal topics discussed in these volumes include, the use of the Old Testament in the Gospel and Acts, the influence of the Septuagint, Paul's interpretation of scripture, and the use of older scripture in Pseudepigraphal literature.
