The penultimate book in The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod is the series' darkest entry yet. There is enough back story provided for readers to begin with this book without being lost, but series fans will learn new aspects involving many familiar characters. With many enthusiastic series readers, libraries serving middle and high school aged youth will likely see this book circulating heavily. It ends with a profoundly unexpected turn of events that changes nearly everything thought to be true through the first few books, setting up the conclusion of the series (coming in fall 2010) in grand fashion.
