For those interested in learning the essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology Sally A. Brozenec This general anatomy and physiology textbook is an excellent overview of all body systems, including cellular function, a chemistry review and a comprehensive discussion of the immune system (often omitted in general anatomy and physiology texts). It is the fifth edition of this text. The purpose of this book is to introduce students to the structure and function of the human body for the cellular to the organ systems level. This book is targeted toward beginning level students in allied health fields, including physical therapy, medical technology, LPN, and nursing students. This clearly written book uses well-done illustrations and graphics to clarify the text. End-of-chapter summaries, review questions, appendixes, and a glossary make it reader-friendly and add to the usefulness of the text. This is a useful text for anyone teaching an introductory course in anatomy and physiology to students preparing for a career in the area of allied health. It is well organized and has many features that are important in the teaching of this science. For example, in anatomy, a picture truly is worth a thousand words. It would be a useful reference for professionals who may need to refresh their knowledge of the subject. Although it includes discussions of pathology that may be beyond the scope of this type of book, this does not detract from its value as a course text and a shelf reference.
