It is richly illustrated and has a glossary.\ Purpose: The purpose is to present a general overview for the understanding of embryology and histology. Added features improve this edition tremendously.\ Audience: This book will serve as an excellent teaching aid for educators as a first audience, but anyone in the dental profession would benefit from it.\ Features: All 16 chapters have numerous illustrations. In this edition, each chapter has clinical comments and patient notes are considered that make it easier to understand and visualize the scientific concept behind it. Both color and black-and-white illustrations are used. There is an overview at the beginning of each chapter, followed by a detailed description of cells, tissue, and organ development and function.\ Assessment: Oral manifestation of disease can not be well understood without knowing the basic science of embryology and histology. Unfortunately in the dental profession, limited time is spent in teaching this basic concept. This book offers an excellent overview of oral development with microscopic anatomy allowing anyone in the field of dental profession a better understanding of this basic science. Based on the author's 40 years of experiences, this is an excellent book for dental professionals to possess. As this text is designed for dental educators and the technology is available, conversion to CD-ROM availability for use during classroom teaching would be a valuable future consideration.\ \
