However, that is not to say that I did not enjoy reading the conclusion of Grubb's Grady's battle. When the story opens, Grubbs is in the depths of despair. He is losing his fight with Lord Loss and the demons, and they have found their way into the world. With the majority of his family dead, Grubbs is forced to decide how much he is willing to sacrifice for a chance to win the fight. The decisions that Grubbs faces and the choices he makes are sometimes shocking, and they are at odds with his role as the "protagonist" in the series, but that is part of what makes this YA novel stand out. It is realistic to the point of horrific, yet it manages to stay engaging and entertaining all the way through. Reviewer: Jennifer Waldrop
