\ Library JournalThis fluid translation of selections from Federico y su mundo (1980) by Maurer, translator of Federico Garcia Lorca's Deep Song and Other Prose ( LJ 5/15/ 80), is two works in one, only one of which justifies publication. The first half is Francisco's perfunctory, personal ac count of his older brother's early years, left truncated when Federico moved to Madrid (1919). Far more rewarding and worthwhile is the surprisingly objective series of critical essays on Lorca's ma jor plays. The fine text is marred, how ever, by confusing footnotes (asterisks instead of numbers) and inconsistent ap plication of English and Spanish ver sions.
