Fox (Purdue University) adds 300 new and modified problems to this sixth edition of a text/CD-ROM package for an introductory one-or two-semester course in fluid mechanics at the junior or senior level. A major effort has been made to improve the clarity of writing in this edition. As in previous editions, the text's approach emphasizes physical concepts of fluid mechanics and methods of analysis that begin from basic principles. There is also emphasis on the use of control volumes to maintain a problem-solving approach that is theoretically inclusive. The accompanying CD-ROM includes material on advanced topics, 45 example problem workbooks in Excel, and an introduction to Excel's basic features. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR Booknews Text for an introductory one- or two-semester course at the junior or senior level emphasizes the physical concepts of fluid mechanics and analysis methods, beginning from basic principles. Major additions to this edition (third, 1985) include a new chapter on fluid machinery, a new section on supersonic channel flow, and a large number of new homework problems. Introductory courses in rigid-body dynamics and math through integral calculus are necessary prerequisites. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
