The purpose of this third edition is to stay current with changes in both of these areas. Audience:The content and style of the book is of an introductory work and it seems to be best suited for students who either are about to enter a program in physical therapy (pre-physical therapy) or are in their first year of physical therapy education. Two chapters, one on communication in physical therapy and one on financing and reimbursing health care in physical therapy are new to the third edition. Part two introduces the practice areas of physical therapy. Almost all of the chapters in this section follow the major areas in the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice put forth by the American Physical Therapy Association. Two chapters on physical therapy for pediatric conditions and the older adult are also included in this section. Each chapter begins with a concise outline, a list of key terms and author objectives. Highlight boxes throughout the book emphasize key topic areas. Case studies, summaries, and review questions allow readers to apply the content of each chapter and stimulate class discussion. Although not overly detailed, the book gives readers a realistic understanding of what it takes to be a physical therapist and the responsibilities that accompany the occupation.
