Introduction to Sport Law presents legal issues in sport in an accessible manner using a topical approach that is easily understood by readers with little or no legal background. Using straightforward, jargon-free explanations, the text guides readers through the major legal areas specific to the sport setting. Doody Review Services Reviewer:Robb Duncanson, MEd, ATC/L, CSCS(University of Tennessee at Knoxville)Description:This general introduction to sport law, designed for a variety of sport managers, presents a wide range of issues.Purpose:The book is aimed at entry-level sport professionals in an effort to give them a basic level of knowledge in a wide range of legal issues that effect sport administrators. The authors wanted to provide a book aimed specifically at this audience, in hopes of replacing the wide range of texts borrowed from other courses of study that often are above the level of knowledge that entry level sport managers need. The book nicely meets the authors' objectives, and will serve as a useful text.Audience:It is appropriately written for its audience of entry-level sport administrators. Features:Covering the basic topics of sport law, the book includes an introduction to the legal system. The topics are presented in a clear and concise manner, in terms that entry-level sport administrators can relate to. Rather than using many charts or graphs, the book instead relies on text and its main feature, the "In the Courtroom" sections. These sections are relevant cases that readers should be able to recall. Assessment:This book is valuable as an introductory tool, and can easily serve as a basis of knowledge for sport administrators beginning their studies. It is successful at addressing readers at an appropriate level, as opposed to the various books that have been adapted from other academic programs for use in sport management programs.
