Piet Konings presents a marvelously detailed analysis of the labor process in Cameroonian plantation production. Despite variations in ethnicity, age, and sex, the labor force on CDC plantations has displayed considerable solidarity, and trade unions and informal labor organizations have had an active role. The author also examines the impact of CDC practices on smallholders in the vicinity.
