\ VOYAThis lively series of books on recreational drugs is a companion to the Web site, MyReportLinks.com, which provides links to Internet sites on a variety of topics. Each book in the series offers an overview of sites on the topic at hand that are available through the Web site and the password and instructions necessary to access them. Ecstasy and Other Party Drugs includes a page of interesting facts about party drugs, and chapters on the history of drugs such as ecstasy, LSD, methamphetamine, and others, how they are made and sold, and their effects on the human body. Because the book is filled with anecdotes illustrating the dire consequences of the use of these drugs, Aretha comes across as strongly biased against recreational drugs and his writing style, rather than seeming objective, expresses a definite tone of warning. Laliberte's Marijuana is arranged very similarly to Aretha's book, and also imparts a strong "anti-drug" message. She does, however, include some helpful information on the medicinal uses of marijuana. Both books have glossy, eye-catching charts and photographs on almost every page. This series will appeal to younger readers, who will find it useful in writing research papers and reports. Among the other volumes in the series are Alcohol, Cocaine and Crack, Heroin, Inhalants, and Methamphetamine and Amphetamines. (Drugs). Following 30 suggested links, which the publisher promises to keep up-to-date on its Web site for five years, the book offers basic information about marijuana, including history, debates over its medicinal value, effects on the body, cultivation and sales, and getting help for abusers. In keeping with the Web site theme, pages are designed to look like a screen. Charts, tables, and photographs aid in understanding. Books of the same title by Sarah Lennard-Brown (Raintree, 2004), Sean Connolly (Heinemann Library, 2002), Randi Mehling (Chelsea House, 2003), and Mary E. Williams (Gale, 2003) are all more detailed. Nonetheless, Laliberte's title offers solid information, presented in a clear, straightforward manner.-Debbie Stewart Hoskins, Grand Rapids Public Library, MI Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.\ \
