The novel Mind Games is the sequel to Momma, Please Forgive Me! Mind Games is a mystery thriller that focuses on how the victim is troubled with hurt and pain because of an abusive past. After spending over 10 years in prison for the murder of her abusive husband, La Vonne Brown goes through several changes trying to figure out if her husband, Jonathan Brown is really dead. Throughout the story, La Vonne will see him, or think she’s seeing him as she tries to live her life and build a solid foundation with her children, whom her mother has raised while she was locked up. As in the novel; ‘Momma, Please Forgive Me!’ Mind Games deals with the sensitive subject of domestic violence. It focuses on how the victim is troubled with hurt and pain because of this abuse, along with how the entire family suffers as well. I know of this hurt and pain very well, because I grew up in a family that suffered from domestic violence by the hands of my step-father. However, I made the necessary changes to put an end to it in my family, while continuing to live a happy and healthy life with my husband of eighteen years. Mind Games explores the after effects of how a woman, who has been separated from her family for over ten years, comes back into society and tries to live a normal and happy life. However, there are many twists and turns in this story as she tries to be the perfect mother to her now teenage children. This story explores the daily lives of how La Vonne’s children treat her and how their classmates treat them after finding out the hidden truth of what their mother did and why she hasn’t been a part of their lives for so long. This book will send readers on a thrill ride as they too try to figure out if Jonathan is in fact dead, or just playing tricks with their minds.
