This text offers an introduction to probability and statistics for undergraduate and graduate students and practitioners in engineering and the sciences, using real examples and data sets to motivate students to build skills in data collection and analysis. An applied presentation stresses underlying concepts and the application of statistical methodologies. Coverage includes probability and basic and advanced statistics, with additional chapters on nonparametric statistical analysis, quality control methods, and reliability analysis and life testing. Computer output from the Minitab software package is used, as well as computer output from other packages. Computer notes provide tips on using software packages to perform analysis.
