Packed with encouragement and heartrending letters from kids, this is an excellent resource for helping young adults find the courage and conviction to abstain from sex until marriage. VOYA Premarital sex is harmful to young adults. Youth pastor White dares to make this assertion based on Biblical principles of God's design for sexual fulfillment within marriage, current societal problems associated with increased premarital sexual activity, and perhaps of most interest, the letters and comments of young adults themselves. With a conversational style liberally interspersed with real-life stories and excerpts from his extensive interaction with teenagers, the author makes a convincing case. He is willing to share his own story also, testifying to the sexual fulfillment to be found in a solid marriage. However, he is not condemning of those who have already experienced sex outside of marriage. He assures them that they can formulate and maintain new standards of sexual conduct. The foundation for this sexual ethic is unmistakably Christian, and a chapter is included on the Christian life and basic discipleship. It is the letters White includes that make this book hard to put down. No one, no matter what their viewpoint, can fail to be touched by stories of cruel sexual pressure, date rape, long-term guilt, sexual encounters between twelve-year-olds, and unplanned pregnancies. But besides the stories and the ethics behind abstinence, White includes practical suggestions as to how to avoid compromising situations, "how far is too far," how to guard heart and mind, and how to become a person impassioned with respect for others and for God's plan for each life. This is a book that should be in the hands of every Christian young adult. For those "outside the fold" but open to an alternative to contemporary sexual morals, it offers real hope and practical help. Charts. Source Notes. Further Reading. VOYA Codes: 5Q 4P M J S (Hard to imagine it being any better written, Broad general YA appeal, Middle School-defined as grades 6 to 8, Junior High-defined as grades 7 to 9 and Senior High-defined as grades 10 to 12).
