Kerby has packed this book full of great projects to use in elementary school libraries. Some activities focus on specific authors, such as Marc Brown, Joanna Cole, Jean Fritz, and Johanna Hurwitz. Specialty units deal with genres such as biographies, mysteries, and fairy tales, as well as Caldecott and Newbery winners. Other chapters list ideas that help students explore the various sections of the library and learn the Dewey decimal system. For every activity that she describes, Kerby includes reproducible black-line masters, a wonderful time-saving feature. A variety of bookmarks, really neat author cards with the author's signature on the back, certificates for completing the various activities, reading diaries, and a Newbery Bingo game are all easily photocopied. Reading Fun will spice up elementary school library programs and many of the activities can be adapted for use in public libraries as well.
