Simple, rhythmic text, and pictures that are clearly detailed and colorful entertain and teach toddlers. This third book in the 'Mighty Wheels' series presents big, strong vehicles that can build roads, tow or flatten whole cars or haul big loads.Children's LiteratureAlmost all children are fascinated by big machinery, whether it is monster trucks or heavy construction equipment. The sounds, the power and the sheer size of these machines render most kids awestruck. This particular book introduces many common machines such as cranes, monster trucks and excavators, using simple text and neatly done watercolor illustrations. Though the book did not strike me as exceptional, two of my young children said with assurance that any book about big machinery is a good book. Highly Recommended\ — Julia Wolst\ \ \ \ \ Canadian Materials\ - Julia Wolst\ Rough, Tough Wheels is sure to be a favourite with truck-enamored pre-schoolers. Simple descriptive text is paired with vibrant watercolour illustrations depicting all sorts of large noisy vehicles. Road-building, log hauling, house moving, car-crushing, deep-digging - the trucks in this little book do it all. Each of the two-page spreads covers a single working vehicle. Clear text describes the actions of each machine in 12-15 words. This approach allows the book to be enjoyed both by the youngest of preschoolers as a read-to-me and by emergent readers as a read-alone. Chum McLeod's accompanying illustrations are bright and bold. Background detail is kept to a minimum with the primary focus being on the featured truck. Young truck fanatics will appreciate the level of detail painted into each vehicle. All the necessary levers, pistons and hoists have been included in a simplified form suited to the child audience. Ideas for parent/child sharing are included at the front of the book.\ Highly recommended for home, classroom and library use, Rough, Tough Wheels is destined to be a well-loved, dog-eared favourite.
