After providing a detailed and fascinating look at the impact of newspapers, syndicates, and editors on a comic strip, Watterson turns his focus toward the battle to not have "Calvin and Hobbes" merchandised in the form of T-shirts, dolls, and the like. The victory was moot, however. Shortly after winning his battle, he retired the strip anyway.
