Mason (gender studies, U. of Sydney, Australia) attempts to forge links between the different bodies of literature on homophobic violence and gendered violence. Based her work on a series of interviews with lesbian women that focused upon their experiences and perceptions of verbal hostility, physical violence, and sexual violence, she highlights the interactive qualities and constitutive capacities of such violence. She argues that the experiences of these women reveal the importance of thinking about homophobia-related violence in the context of other specificities such as gender and race.
