\ BooknewsA study of the history of the immigration and acculturation of Ethiopan Jews into Israel. The authors document the trials of the new entrants to Israeli society from the mass deaths in refugee camps in the Sudan to the unwillingness of some Israeli Jews to recognize them as coreligionists to the Israeli bureaucracy's policies of offering financial incentives to send the children of the Ethiopian Jews to boarding schools and separating them from their parents. In the end, they plead that it is the job of social service workers in Israel to help the new arrivals achieve parity and empowerment within the larger society.
