A historical overview of the development of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame including career biographies of all the inductees. VOYA From the Allman Brothers to Bill Haley, Carl Perkins to Frank Zappa, this book covers the first 150 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "Part I: General Background" includes a very interesting chapter on Alan Free and his part in the birth of rock and roll. What makes it interesting are the quotes, the anecdotes, and the personal nature of the writing. Part I also includes information about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. In Part II, individuals and groups who have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are listed alphabetically, with the entries providing both personal and professional information. Each description includes not only dry factual annotations about the individual's achievements, records, etc., but also interesting personal information, anecdotes, comments, and insights. At the end of each entry is a bibliography for further reading. This book will appeal to both the browser interested in leafing through the material and to the individual who needs to find specific information not only on performers, but on rock and roll songwriters and entrepreneurs as well. After reading an entry that mentions the names of other artists, the student will be able to use the book to look up those individuals as well. Although there are a few photographs, this is mainly a book of text. This title would certainly be an important addition to any school or public library's reference shelf. Index. Photos. Biblio. Chronology. Appendix.
