Packed with facts, stats and news from around the country and around the world, the TIME FOR KIDS Almanac 2010 includes information on topics ranging from animals to acid rain, voting rules to video games, sports stars to space exploration and much, much more. This richly designed resource features more than 800 photos, flags, and maps and is sure to keep young readers engaged, entertained, and learning--all at once. With more than 4 million subscribers, TIME FOR KIDS is the No. 1 trusted source for up-to-date kid-friendly news. Every year, TIME FOR KIDS releases their fact-filled and entertaining almanac, filled with more essential information and photos than ever before. A must-have for all 8- to 12-year-olds, the TIME FOR KIDS Almanac 2010 pairs notable news and indispensable info from the award-winning magazine with wacky facts, puzzles, quizzes, and other interactive sidebars. Whether they want to learn about global warming or Grammy winners, curious kids will find exactly what they need (and more!) within the colorful pages of TIME FOR KIDS Almanac 2010.Children's LiteratureWhile brightly colored and busily "sound-bite" designed to meet current readers' expectations, this Time sponsored almanac is considerably heavier on copy than the competition. It also covers more categories, including one on "Books and Literature." It is gratifying to see book awards given as stats with equal (well, almost equal) coverage as found in the "Sports" section. The "Geography" section manages full maps of all the continents, as well as a useful world time zone map. Extra attractions are coverage of "Buildings and Architecture"(including a brief discussion of the hot new topic of "green architecture"), "Games" (lists of bestselling PC Games), plus an analysis of classic board games like "Monopoly" ,and a quick recap of color theory (with color wheel) and visual art materials. But best of all, this almanac begins with the "Year in Review," covering topics from "Somali Pirates" to the death of Heath Ledger. It is good to have all this arbitrary information grounded in the reality of daily life. An index is included. Reviewer: Kathleen Karr
