With chapters on key areas such as nutrition, reproduction, anesthesia, and technical procedures, the book covers vital skills, training, and technical information, AAEVT's Equine Manual for Veterinary Technicians is an invaluable guide for qualified equine veterinary technicians and assistants, particularly those earning their equine certification, vet tech students, and equine practices. KEY FEATURESComplete reference specific to equine practiceCovers all aspects of the care and treatment of horsesSingle resource for information on equine veterinaHighly accessible and easy to use Doody Review Services Reviewer:Dennis D French, DVM(University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine)Description:The authors have done a marvelous job of incorporating the most important aspects of equine practice in one book. The coverage of maintenance of horses as well as their medical and surgical issues is impressive, and it also includes bookkeeping data that will be valuable to technicians assisting new equine practitioners. Purpose:The purpose was to compile a reference that serves the specific needs of technicians in equine care. There is no other book like this written solely for equine technicians. The authors have done a commendable job of providing a concise, all-encompassing view of equine practice.Audience:Written strictly for equine technicians, the book addresses issues they face on a daily basis. The editors have done a wonderful job of recruiting authors, practitioners and technicians, who have firsthand knowledge of the practice and can communicate that knowledge. Features:The first chapters on general equine care and nutrition along with equine anatomy and physiology are particularly well done and informative. The images are helpful, although color photos would have been nice. The only shortcoming is the lack of discussion of sales preparation issues that occur in the racing industry.Assessment:This is a complete and thorough manual for a very specific audience and the quality of the information is first rate. McCurnin's Clinical Textbook for Veterinary Technicians, 7th edition, Bassert and McCurnin (Elsevier, 2010), provides much of the same information, but does not focus on equine practice.
