Since the publication of Animation Art: The Early Years in the Spring of 1995, the appreciation for the accomplishments of animation artists has grown even more intense. The images strike a strong chord in us, awakening early memories and fantasies. This new volume takes the reader from Disney's 1954 feature Lady and the Tramp up to the antics of The Simpsons. The book is illustrated with over 6500 photographs, most in color, of cels and other animation art that have been offered at auction, along with the prices they brought. In addition, thousands of other animation art auction offerings are listed, making this a comprehensive source for the collector. Accompanying the wealth of illustrated art, the text provides historical sketches of the studios and other primary information about the artists. This is a necessary volume for all all who are interested in this wonderful art form.Antiques & the ArtsMore than 6,500 photographs (most in color) of cels and other animation art offered at auction are featured, along with prices realized.

\ Antiques & the ArtsMore than 6,500 photographs (most in color) of cels and other animation art offered at auction are featured, along with prices realized.\ \ \ \ \ Library JournalThe Early Years is the first in a planned two-volume set from Lotman, a veteran international collector who saw a need some years ago for this type of price guide. It features over 6000 photographs of original animation cels from 13 studios sold at major auction houses over the past ten years. Each entry reproduces the cel's original color and includes information on its size, condition, and price. Unfortunately, the lack of an index will leave animation novices baffled: the user must know what studio produced what short in order to locate any cel. Librarians desiring a less expensive guide should consider John Cawley's Animation Art Buyer's Guide and Price Guide (Malibu Graphics Pub. Group, 1993). Recommended only for comprehensive animation collections.-Anthony J. Adam, Prairie View A&M Univ.
