The Hollywood Creative Directory, commonly known as the phone book to Hollywood, is THE authoratative source of information helping locate entertainment professionals. Library Journal Now in its 48th edition, the Hollywood Creative Directory certainly lives up to its rubric as the "phone book to Hollywood." (Another fitting slogan might be "everything you always wanted to know about contacting everyone you always wanted to know.") The main section lists film and television companies throughout the United States, including street and email addresses, phone and FAX numbers, and the names of top executives. It also provides recent credits for each company, as well as projects that are in preproduction and development. Another section gives similar information, with expanded staff data, for many network television shows and those of a few other channels like HBO and the Cartoon Network. Data are also provided for all the state film commissions and for agencies from Actor's Equity to the Writer's Guild. Finally, this work includes restaurant, hotel, and airline information for both Los Angeles and New York and even the location of screening rooms in those cities. It is updated three times a year. The subtitle of the 24th edition of L.A. 411 adequately explains its scope, which includes data on people, facilities, and companies essential to various forms of media production. It is thus almost entirely complementary to the Hollywood Creative Directory. Covered here are providers of sets and stages, camera and sound equipment, financial and location services, props and wardrobes, and postproduction services. The section on support services is eclectic, including animals and trainers, casting facilities, choreographers, hand and leg models, libraries and research facilities, and translators. Although essential to those in the entertainment industry, both publications (especially Hollywood Creative Directory) will be useful to other readers as well. Recommended for business and cinema reference collections and for libraries with an entertainment industry constituency.-Roy Liebman, California State Univ.
