A comprehensive collection of activities written just for kindergarteners! Andrea Sears Andrews - Children's Literature The editors of this large resource book requested teachers of five year olds to submit teaching activities that were successful in the classroom. This book is the compilation of these submissions which resulted in over six hundred practical ideas for teachers. The book is divided into over twenty sections, each focusing on a specific subject and/or theme for the classroom. Some examples include: "Literacy," "Music and Movement," "Gross Motor," "Outdoor Play," "Science and Nature," and "Social Development." There are dozens of activities under each section (all clearly listed in the book's table of contents) with the greatest number topping at sixty under "General Tips." Each has a materials' list and a chronological listing of steps necessary to participate in or complete the activity. When appropriate, there is a listing of related books as well. Diagrams or illustrations accompany activities when having a visual is helpful. Patterns are included. Although the title of this resource implies that only kindergarten children would benefit from its pages, the book is helpful to any teacher of young children. Activities can be easily adapted to certain age groups. The breadth of subject matter covered, alone, is reason enough to get this book for reference. There is no doubt that one would find themselves shuffling through its pages time and time again when a new activity idea is desired or an old one needs to be refreshed. It is part of the "Giant Encyclopedia" series. 2004, Gryphon House, Ages Adult.
