The authors' 1993 study, Information Systems Outsourcing: Myths, Metaphors and Realities (Wiley), dispelled many myths about total outsourcing. The present study investigates the hypothesis that internal IS departments should be able to implement efficient managerial tactics without outsourcing. It presents six case studies of organizations that undertook an outsourcing evaluation, gathered external vendor bids, but selected the internal IS department's bid. Annotation c.
